Are there limited spaces on the Hong Kong Trip?
Yes, right now we are unsure of the exact number, but it has typically been around 15 spaces for the SCCT group.

What is the Micro Project?
This is a micro-sized, extra curricular project to help students interested to understand what the actual project is like if they go on the exchange. We are giving you a month to complete it because we know you have studies and work to do. Ideally you should not be spending more than a day’s work on it. (appx. 8-10 hours)
Where can I find information on the requirements of the micro brief?
You can find it on this website FAQ, this link to the OneDrive (accessible if you are a UWE student) and also linked here.
When is this call for interest due?
December 07 at midnight. Chill over the winter break and we will let you know early January. You can submit using this link.
Or this QR code.

Why are we having to do a micro brief?
Basically, both the Art and Architecture school, and SCCT are doing small micro briefs to gauge interest in attending. The Powers That Be want you to understand that we do a short creative brief when we are there, and we work under time constraints. SHAPE use this brief to get their students to engage with UWE students. And it helps you practice getting used to the website before you are out there.
Is this assessed?
Only in that we will look at criteria of interest, involvement, and effort. This isn’t marked, and has no bearing on your academic record. Ideally we want you to have fun. While the trip itself is intensive, it’s a lot of fun — so have fun!
So, are you looking for a video specifically? Using all three types of media?
No. We are inviting Games Tech, Music Tech, and Digital Media. We all work differently. This means it can be anything that fits within your discipline. Or something that you enjoy making that might be outside your discipline. It can be audio only, it can be static, or modelled, or image based, or a video/short or animated in some way. But make it yours. (and make it quick!)
Can I check out specialist kit and do this microbrief?
Absolutely if you want, you can check stuff out from the University. However, on the actual Hong Kong trip, they will not allow you to bring University kit to your trip (unfortunately). You can bring your own though (at your own risk).
Who Do I contact with questions?
You can contact Mary Jackson or Josh Hompstead through your UWE outlook email.
Do you have examples of last years projects?
I dooooo. We will hopefully get some responses up on the website soon. But I don’t want you to feel like you have to do what the 2025 group did previously.
I can’t make something in such a short time. What if it’s not done or perfect?
Oh gosh, don’t worry! This is not about perfection! This is about making something, having fun, experimenting, and working under a short time frame. Even if it is unfinished, submit it! We want to see what you came up with.
Ok, I’m interested. What media can I use again?
Audio, images, video. To be honest, any media will work. Also we want you to interact with this website map on the home page so you become familiar with how to use this site. To make your response you can use PowerPoint (or free similar), Miro, Twine, Figma, any Adobe products, Downpour, MaxMSP, Unity or anything else that helps you express your idea. Don’t worry if its not listed here. Just make something. Then tell us about it.
Can I (insert idea here…)?
- is it relevant to the brief
- is it digital media, Music Tech, or Games Tech related
- can you finish it in about one day
- can you show it to your grandmother and not be mortified
If you answer yes to these questions, then it’s prolly all fine. But if you are still not sure, ask Mary or Josh
